Feeling Anxious? Relax! It’s Normal Sometimes

IN THE US, almost half of the population is described as being in some way mentally ill, and 200 million prescriptions are written annually to treat depression and anxiety.
These statistics have sparked a debate about whether people are taking more medication than is needed, for problems they may not have.

Those who defend such widespread use of prescription drugs insist a significant part of the population is under-treated and under-medicated. Those opposed note that, for example, diagnosis of bipolar disorder has rocketed by 4,000 per cent and that over-medication is impossible without over-diagnosis…

Anxiety Medication Side Effects

Anxiety Medications

Anxiety medications are definitely the most widely used medications. The most popular of these medications are Xanax, Valium, Klonopin and many others that are not so common but still occasionally used. These are a sedative based anxiety medication so the most common side effect with these medications will be sedation which slows your senses down and makes you feel like a zombie. So unless you enjoy feeling like a lazy bum, I would suggest passing on these types of anxiety medications. Sedative based anxiety medications are typically used for people who are anxious about a taking a test or getting a promotion, etc. They are not recommended for people who have a chemical imbalance as they do not effect the part of the brain that causes anxiety when you have an anxiety disorder.

Now if you’re like me, you may have a disorder and require an SSRI or beta-blocker type medications. I only suggest using them while talking to someone about what causes your anxiety or following the steps outlined in the natural anxiety cure products available on the internet. I reviewed the top 3 and most effective on this site. The trick is using the anxiety medication to get rid of the anxiety completely so you can focus on getting over the situations that make you unnaturally anxious. It has worked great for me in the past and if nothing else has been working for you, then that might be your next step.

The main point of this post tho is to show you some of the side effects certain medications can cause if you do decide that taking meds. is your only option but please make 100% sure that there is nothing else you can do to get rid of your anxiety. I’m not posting the side effects because I want to scare you away from taking medications, I just want you to be aware. Most of the side effects will go away after the first few days of taking your medication.

This information is from about.com and is great info. as far as listing anxiety medication side effects. Hope this helps.

How the brain affects your mental health and body

Many people “think” that depression, anxiety, PTSD etc are caused due to their “thinking” negative thoughts. It this really true? If so, why can these people not simply change their thoughts so that they feel better? To answer this question, we need to explore how the brain works. I intend to keep this very brief indeed, as this space does not lend itself to a lengthy thesis. However, if you understood why you seemingly cannot escape negative thoughts, could you do something about it?

The first thing that one has to remember is that most individuals identify themselves with their mind or thoughts. It does not occur to them that they might be able to control these thoughts. Consider this: “Consciousness uses the brain to mindfully process learning and experiences into electrochemical impulses called thoughts.” The brain is a tool; it is not you!

Treating and Managing Your Anxiety

Natural Cure For Anxiety treating

Many people suffer from anxiety which may be a result of a form of anxiety disorder. Some people can actually learn to deal with their anxiety attacks and live normal lives while others need professional help in doing so. This is because not all forms of the disorder can be as severe as others. For many who get anxiety attacks rarely, they can actually manage themselves well enough to get good results. For others, managing their anxiety may be in the form of medication, either herbal or chemical based.

There are also some ways of dealing with anxiety that do not require the need of medication. Many people prefer these ways because they feel safer not taking nay medicines that may have adverse side effects. Alternative therapy or treatment can be dome by yourself in your own space.

Ways to Take Control of the Situation

One surefire way of taking control of your anxiety attacks is to figure out what triggers them. You may have noticed that certain people or events trigger your anxiety attacks such as being called by your boss, having a family dinner or even speaking in public. You will need to find out what aspect of meeting your boss or your family triggers your fears or stress because there is no way you can avoid your boss and you will eventually have to meet your family. Finding out what triggers your dread, fears and anxiety is one step closer to dealing with your disorder.

Once you have put your finger on what causes you anxiety levels to rise, you can prime yourself to meet the rising anxiety and deal with it by some relaxation techniques. One way of relaxing is to plan. If you have an idea of why your boss may have summoned you, you can think of ways to deal with the probabilities that you have thought of. For the family dinner, you can arrange for just a short time with them and then leave as soon as it is possible. Knowing that you do not have to spend as much time there, will motivate you to get through the little time you have allotted for the family dinner.

Some individuals have no idea what may have caused their anxiety but here are other techniques to calm oneself. Try to take a relaxing bath or to have a relaxing massage, whichever works for you. Whatever technique you know that can soothe you is a good thing to do when you start to feel the anxiety rise. Sometimes, you do not even have to do anything but just rest or meditate by yourself in a dim room. Clearing one’s thoughts can be a calming experience. Listening to soothing music can reduce the anxious feeling that may have sprung up for no reason at all. Talking to someone whom you know cares for you is also one way of getting rid of the stressful and anxious feelings that you may have.

Alternative treatments for anxiety can also be a great way of positively controlling the feelings of fear and dread that one feels when anxious. Drinking calming chamomile tea can help many people while aromatherapy or aromatherapy massage can also give you the desired effects. Alternative medicine may also have desirable effects and usually have no adverse side effects like dependency.

Is Exercise The ‘Miracle’ Anti-Depressant Remedy?

Natural Cure For Anxiety gym

Common wisdom holds that exercise boosts your mood, in addition to benefiting your physical health. Ample evidence seems to suggest that exercise might hold great promise in the treatment of disorders such as depression. So, just how much of a role does exercise play, when it comes to the treatment of Depression & Anxiety?

In the last couple decades, there has been some interest in looking at the mental health value of exercise. Until recently, however, studies investigating the effectiveness of exercise in the treatment of mental health have not been conducted with the same level of scientific rigor as the clinical trials used to bring anti-depressant medications to the market. Limitations of previous studies have included the absence of a control group, individuals not being randomly assigned to study groups, and testing the effects of exercise on individuals who were not suffering from a mood disorder.

Does Drinking Alcohol Increase Anxiety?

I have what they call generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Certain situations make me anxious to a point to where I start to shake, can’t eat and just feel overall anxious like I’m about to go out on stage in front of a big crowd. I can honestly say that for many years before I took up drinking, I did have anxiety but nothing like I do now. If you suffer from anxiety, you may have noticed this as well. While drinking a 6 pack or more might be a lot of fun the night before, the next day is ruined. I find myself barely functional and very anti-social and full of anxiety. Drinking dehydrates you and thins out your blood which will increase your heart rate. An increased heart rate generally makes you feel anxious and can cause anxiety. I’ve also read that alcohol destroys a good amount of vitamins that your body needs and it’s been known that taking vitamins can help reduce your anxiety. Alcohol also lowers your blood sugar and causes the adrenal glands to produce noradrenalin and the increase of noradrenalin and lowered blood sugar can produce and / or intensify anxiety.

I enjoy hanging out at night and drinking with my buddies. Most of the time, if I’m feeling good, it’s hard for me not to drink because I’m not feeling crappy from drinking the night before and forget how terrible I will feel the next day. I can honestly say from my experience, having GAD and drinking alcohol is not a fun mix the day after a night of drinking. I have spent an entire day throwing up and feeling sick because I had drank too much the night before too quickly and woke up the next day with terrible anxiety and a terrible hang over.

I constantly remind myself when I go to the store to buy beer that I’m going to probably feel sick and anxious the next day and things that don’t usually bother me will give me anxiety. This is something that I’m reminding myself over and over and although I might feel relaxed and goofy during a night of drinking, all the fun is sucked up from the next day into one night. Hardly worth it if you ask me.

Now if you’re like me and enjoy drinking beer and hanging out, then learn your limit. Drink slowly throughout the evening / night. Don’t chug your beer to get drunk faster. Drink slowly. I know it can be hard to stop once you’ve hit the point of “I don’t care if I feel crappy tomorrow!” but you’ll have to quit hours before you go to bed so you can sober up. Bring water with you. After your last beer or alcoholic beverage, crack open a bottle of water and drink away. Drink as much water as you can before you go to bed and at least 3 tall glasses of water the next day. Water helps and food helps (if you can eat it). I’m still planning to cut way down on my alcohol intake to reduce my anxiety. I hate anxiety and drinking makes it worse.

Taking Anxiety Medications – A Few Things You Should Know

Sometimes in more severe cases of anxiety, it may not be possible for any natural cure to even affect you or affect you enough to make you feel as good as you’d like to feel. This is often the case with many other people out there, including me who suffer from an unnatural amount of anxiety that slowly over time gets worse and eventually you might start developing anxiety over things that never even bothered you in the past but might be associated with another fear that’s causing your anxiety. Anxiety is viral and spreads over time. Thankfully, it generally doesn’t spread at a fast rate of speed and sometimes may take years to develop even small signs of anxiety.

When anxiety starts ruining the things you look forward to in life or ruins the things that you have to do, then it’s time to find a solution. Some may find comfort in natural cures for anxiety and some may only find it therapeutic but still suffer from the feeling of being out of control with your anxiety. Don’t worry; you’re not the only one that’s going through that feeling. In fact, most people who are diagnosed with anxiety disorders feel the same way. Medication might be your only option and if you’re feeling like it is, then you’re on the right track but that’s only 50% of the solution.

Anxiety medications are a chemical that you don’t want in your body longer than necessary. Anxiety medications are also a tool that helps retrain your brain but you’ll also need to start therapy either on your own by purchasing one of the many natural anxiety cure products available over the internet or in a room with a therapist that specializes in anxiety. Anxiety disorders can be treated naturally so please try that first, then consider medication if that doesn’t work for you. Everyone is different and everyone suffers from anxiety over different groups of things and has different groups of symptoms.

If you do decide to take medications, the ideal solution would be to get on the medication until you start to feel better and until you no longer feel anxious in any situation that used to cause minor anxiety and even panic attacks. After you’ve started feeling better, you’ll need to go through some therapy sessions of some sort. Seeing a therapist can get very expensive but there are many products available on the internet that have the same affects and some people have said they had better results from than when they were seeing a therapist about their anxiety. It depends on who you’re are seeing but anxiety products available on the internet usually have a guarantee or your money back sort of thing and I can say that when you see that, you’re more than likely going to get the results you’re hoping for. Either one you choose, one will work for you and sometimes without using medications at all. So to summarize; try natural remedies and if you can’t shake off that anxious feeling, hop on some doctor recommended medication until you start feeling better, then start trying natural ways of anxiety relief like visiting with a therapist and purchasing the great products you can find on the internet while slowly tapering off your medication and still undergoing natural treatment.

My Panic Attack Story, how I treated my Anxiety Attacks

My story started about 15 years ago after an unpleasant go round with a buyer of one of my thoroughbred horses. I raise and train horses and this woman wanted to purchase a mare that I had put a fair amount of training into. My wife loved the horse and thought I should keep her, but I thought I needed the money worse than the horse.

Anyway, the woman who bought her was very critical about the horse, probably just to get the price down, but I took it personally. I wanted to just leave with the horse, but the deal had already been struck and against my better judgment I let it go through. That night I woke suddenly in my motel room. My heart was racing, my mouth was dry; a cold sweat broke out as I opened my eyes. It was pitch dark in the room; I could see nothing and I honestly thought either I was dead or dying.

In misery, I lay in the bed clutching the pillow as absolute waves of terror rolled over me. I was unable to even reach over and turn on the bedside light. Finally daylight came and some sounds from outside seemed to take the ice out of my veins. I was able to get up and function somewhat normally through the day, but became more and more nervous about spending another night in a strange motel room before returning home….

Got social anxiety? Nine social skills that anyone can practice

This morning, I got a first hand glimpse of how good social skills make all the difference in the world. I watched an individual who looked tired and angry (but other than that was attractive) get told that the coffee machine at a local gas station was out of order, then less than five minutes later, a smiling, upbeat gentleman (who was also overweight) asked about the coffee machine and almost immediately the person behind the counter went over, took a look at it, and got it working.

Here are nine social skills you can practice throughout your day that will open all kinds of little doors for you and eventually lead you to financial rewards as well….

Recognizing the dangers of anti-depressant drugs

In my opinion, anti-anxiety/anti-depressant medications are being grossly over prescribed (these type of medications are the 5th and 6th highest selling medications in the world). While these type of medications do have a place in the treatment of SOME anxiety conditions, they should NOT be considered as a cure.

As well, it’s my experience that these types of medications can do more harm than good, especially if long-term normal and medication-free health is desired.

To frequently these medications are prescribed as the first and ONLY form of treatment, without the individual being told the short and long-term ramifications of medication therapy. While some medications can provide temporary symptom relief, unless the underlying reasons for anxiety are addressed there is a high incidence of prolonged medication use and future disorder re occurrence…

Anxiety Attack Symptoms

There are a number of stressful medical conditions affecting many of us today. One of the broadest topics is anxiety disorders, with millions of people suffering to some degree or another. Specific symptoms vary greatly from person to person. As anxiety disorders grow progressively worse without treatment you should see your doctor immediately if you suspect that you may be suffering from one of these illnesses.

One of the most common kinds of anxiety disorders is panic disorder where a person experiences repeated and unexpected panic or anxiety attacks. One of the worst case anxiety attack symptoms is where you feel as though you are going to die. The heart may race and feel as though it is going to burst; you may experience shortness of breath and/or feel faint. These are just some of the anxiety attack symptoms you may experience. The attacks may have a range of intensities and can be controlled with medical care and behavioral control…

Anxiety Culture: How to Stop Worrying

Once acquired, the habit of worrying seems hard to stop. We’re raised to worry and aren’t considered “grown up” until we perfect the art. Teenagers are told: “you’d better start worrying about your future”. If your worries aren’t at least as frequent as your bowel movements, you’re seen as irresponsible, childish, aimless. That’s a “responsible adult” game rule.

To the extent that worrying is learned/conditioned behaviour, it can be undone. There are psychological gimmicks for undoing the worry habit. There are also obstacles…

How a month and a half on Paxil taught me to love being shy

I dread public speaking. I get nervous on first dates. I hate to be called on in classes or meetings. In short, I’m shy. Not debilitatingly so. I’m guessing many of you are no different.

I’ve often wondered what it’s like to be outgoing—a social butterfly, an extrovert. That’s why TV ads for Paxil caught my eye. You’ve seen them: They promise ease in a pill. An end to social anxiety. Does my degree of shyness warrant medication? It was enough to make me want to see what life was like without being shy. I wondered what Paxil could do for me. Was a smoother, suaver Seth just 20 milligrams away? ….

Reduce your anxiety and panic attacks

A lot of you may not know that there are natural ways to stop panic attacks and that there are natural panic attack treatments. I’ll share with you some of the knowledge I have gathered to help you start feeling better right now. Part of starting to feel better is knowing that other people are suffering with high stress and panic attacks just like you and me. In fact, about 1 million Americans suffer from panic attacks each month! I’m writing this to help reduce that number as much as possible. I know the feeling to be awake all night shaking with my heart racing and getting mad because I know there’s nothing wrong with me and that if I wasn’t anxious, everything would be 100% fine and the worst part is that I know that!

Here’s what I’ll be covering:

1. Mental Activities

2. Physical Activities

3. Herbal Solutions

Mental Activities

These I think are the most helpful because anxiety is brought on by your mind. In fact, if you were distracted in one of your anxious situations, you wouldn’t even feel anxious until you stopped and noticed that Hey! I’ve been anxious before in this situation and the panic starts for no legitimate reason and your subconscious mind takes over making it seem impossible to get rid of your anxiety.

Part of overcoming your anxiety is to understand it. It’s harder to prevent something from happening that you don’t understand what’s going on. Determine what situations you’re anxious in, ask yourself why am I anxious and is this anxious feeling rational, do other people around me feel this way and if they do, are they as anxious as I am? Once you’ve determined how your subconscious mind is thinking, you’ll have the arsenal your conscious mind needs to win the war of anxiety.

Force yourself to relax. Do what it takes to put yourself in your comfort zone. When I’m feeling like anxiety is about to start, I usually get up and walk around or just talk to someone to get my mind of the anxiety. Get comfortable, relax and think rational thoughts all the time during your anxious situations.

Physical Activities

Doing something physical really interacts with your mind too. You’re too busy working out to be anxious. Being physically active gets your body and mind flowing in an even, relaxing way. I prefer the gym and being around other people and being social with them. I get out and I’m being physically active. It’s a sense of accomplishment and that’s a good feeling.

Studies have shown that even though during anxiety your heart may be racing that it is a good idea to use up all that anxious energy by being physically active because that interacts with the same part of your brain that produces anxiety and can cause a calming effect.

Herbal Solutions

There are many excellent herbal solutions out there. Seredyn being one of them. I have heard that product to be very focused on being able to function without being sleepy but sedating the part of the brain that causes anxiety and bringing it down to a normal level.

Another solution is to make your own tea using certain herbs that have been know to reduce anxiety and others are used for different methods of reducing anxiety. Some of the herbs are kava kava, valerian, st. john’s wart, passion flower, chamomile, lavender and motherwort. I’m sure there are many more and some undiscovered out there.

Some more info. on natural cures for anxiety

I have suffered from anxiety since I was in 4th grade. It has always been a nagging part of my life that I thought I would always be doomed to live with. I grew up on medication and took them for many years. The thing is, unless you have control of the situation, chances are when you come off the drugs, you’ll be right back on the same boat. I can honestly say that I hate medication, especially the ones that mess with your brain. I got tired of feeling like medication was the only way so I did a search for natural cures for anxiety.

I am writing this article to share with you some of the things I have found out on my journey to being naturally anxiety free.

There are many things you can do to cure and even relieve anxiety naturally. There are herbal remedies, exercise/breathing techniques and thought processes. Those are generally the best ones and are most widely used to help relax the tension anxiety can cause.

You may have noticed already that your anxiety is a vicious cycle of worried thoughts. Whether or not you’re aware of what you’re worried about, that’s what it is. In my case, I have a general idea of what is causing my anxiety but not exactly. I am pointing this out because anytime you feel like you’re going to have anxiety, your mind expects it and you believe you’re going to have anxiety and BOOM, panic attack. You must control those thoughts from becoming too active. When it’s not on your mind, you’re not having anxiety. That’s why you will hear some say go out and ride your bike or get up and walk around, talk to someone, go jogging, or go to the gym. That’s the physical part of curing anxiety which we will talk about later on.

Lets talk about herbal solutions to curing anxiety.

Herbal remedies are fun. I always loved the idea of being able to go to the store and buying certain things that would help cure my anxiety. People have said that Passion Flower is a great herbal solution to anxiety. I’ve also read drinking Green Tea can help from a few places as well. All these might claim they cure anxiety but you’ll have to find out on your own to see what works best for you. There are many natural sedatives that won’t knock you out and make you feel like a zombie for the entire day. They will only help reduce the high levels of anxiety which is caused by your subconscious mind which makes it feel so uncontrollable.

Here’s a list of natural herbal anxiety sedatives:

L-theanine – produces a feeling of tranquility
Passion Flower – reduces anxiety and promotes a positive outlook.
Valerian – calms both mind and body
Magnesium Taurinate – calms the mind and supports mental wellbeing.
Niacinamide – contains anti-anxiety properties.

And others as well.

Physical exercise is also a great way to take your mind off things. Being active and getting exercise helps by expelling your excess negative emotions and adrenaline. You will feel more relaxed and enter a more calm state of being, explained in hippy terms. Here’s the technical reason why getting exercise helps reduce anxiety.

“Exercise increases blood flow to the brain, releases hormones, stimulates the nervous system, and increases levels of morphine-like substances found in the body (such as beta-endorphin) that can have a positive effect on mood. Exercise may trigger a neurophysiological high-a shot of adrenaline or endorphins- that produces an antidepressant effect in some, an anti-anxiety effect in others, and a general sense of “feeling better” in most.”

- Michael H. Sacks, M.D.: Exercise For Stress Control

Need I explain more? Just find something active to do on a nice day or evening. I like to ride my bike, play tennis, go swimming and also have a gym membership which is perfect. Enjoy staying active and you’ll have better mental but also physical results.

For professional help Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) can be very effective. The whole idea behind this therapy is to control your negative thoughts before they attack. You ultimately need to retrain the way to think. When you think about, it’s the same thoughts, same cycle, brought on by the same negative thoughts which can repeat itself over and over unless you retrain your brain.

Certain bad situations or potential good situations that are overwhelming, etc. might be uncomfortable to you which will cause you to have worried thoughts which can generate into anxiety and even panic attacks. This is not a method that happens over night but it very very effective because that is the key, to avoid those thoughts that make you anxious.

Some things I would do to deal with anxiety for the time being is breath deep and slowly. I know you’ve heard that before but it works and works great. I also like to call friends or businesses and talk about something fun. I also try to think positive. Think “This is not something to be anxious over because this (put something positive here) is going to happen and it will be soooo cool!”

The main thing you must understand is that anxiety is an uncomfortable, negative, irrational thought that needs to be turned into something positive and put aside. Retrain your brain to understand and accept. There are many natural cures for anxiety and there are many many great methods out there to choose from to help you accomplish your goal to getting rid of anxiety.
